IDAES-UVigo WS on AI in Higher Education

On 30 October 2025, Dr. Carlos Lindade Rodrigues (University of Porto) conducted the 4-hour workshop “Beyond the Hype: Using AI Tools Critically and Creatively in Higher Education”. The workshop was organized by the IDAES PhD programme in Vigo, with the collaboration of the Instituto Lingua (iLingua), and addressed to both junior researchers and teaching staff. Moving beyond surface-level discussions of AI as a new literacy, the workshop focused on practical, critical, and creative uses of AI in academia. Dr. Lindade guided us through bottom-up approaches to developing AI into teaching practice and institutional policy, practising effective prompt-writing, using AI to create rubrics, checklists, and classroom materials, experimenting with tools such as NotebookLM and Paperguide as well as with other innovative tools for creative classroom projects. The session emphasized informed, reflective, and responsible integration of AI-empowering lecturers to harness its potential while maintaining academic integrity and pedagogical purpose.
